everywhere, yellow-faced bees
(2025)
This print remembers a time when Hawaiian yellow-faced bees (Hylaeus spp.) were abundant across the the islands, from coastal areas nestled inside pā‘ū o Hi‘iaka flowers to forests flitting between ‘ōhi‘a and pūkiawe. Over 60 species of Hylaeus have been documented yet today they are rare, in some cases already lost to extinction.
Made for the UH Insect Museum’s “Insect-a-Palooza” outreach event and art fundraiser.
